You and God

Jesus said, “Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, will be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven” – Matthew 5:19

Your relationship with God is personal.  It is individual.  It is between you and God.  When He speaks to you, He speaks to you personally.  When He speaks to you, He speaks to you as an individual.  For example, when God gave His law to the People of Israel in the Old Testament, He also gave it to you.  He uses the word ‘you’: “I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery; you shall have no other gods before Me [emphasis added]” (Exodus 20:2-3).  Therefore, the moral law that God gave to the People of Israel in the Old Testament, also applies to you.  And, just as the People of Israel couldn’t keep His moral law perfectly, neither can you.

Your relationship with God doesn’t end with His moral law, however.  It also includes His forgiveness.  The forgiveness of sins that you receive from God (in the name of His Son, Jesus) is personal.  When Jesus speaks to you, He speaks to you as an individual.  The forgiveness you receive from God (in the name of His Son, Jesus) is directed to you.  When Jesus forgives the sins of those who come to Him in the New Testament, He uses the word ‘your’: “And just then some people were carrying a paralyzed man lying on a bed.  When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, ‘Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven [emphasis added]’ ” (Matthew 9:2).  When Jesus speaks to a sinner, He is speaking to you.  When Jesus forgives a sinner, He is forgiving you.

Your relationship with God is personal and individual.  You violate His moral law personally and individually.  But, you are also forgiven (in the name of His Son, Jesus) personally and individually.  This means that you will go to heaven personally and individually.  A place in heaven is reserved for you personally and individually.  This is the end result of your relationship with God.

“Now we know that whatever the law says, it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced, and the whole world may be held accountable to God” – Romans 3:19
