An Arbitrary God?

Why doesn’t Jesus heal everyone, feed everyone or raise everyone from the dead?  If what we believe about Jesus is true, that He’s God, and if what we believe about God is also true, that He can do anything, then Jesus should be able to heal everyone, feed everyone and raise everyone from the dead.  Yet, He doesn’t.  And, since Jesus can do anything, then He must choose not to heal everyone, feed everyone or raise everyone from the dead.  If Jesus chooses to heal some people and not all, feed some people and not all, and raise some people...

A Saving Faith

“I believe that Jesus Christ, true God, begotten of the Father from eternity, and also true man, born of the Virgin Mary, is my Lord, Who has redeemed me, a lost and condemned creature, purchased and won me from all sins, from death, and from the power of the devil; not with gold or silver, but with His holy, precious blood and with His innocent suffering and death, That I may be His own, and live under Him in His kingdom, and serve Him in everlasting righteousness, innocence, and blessedness, Even as He is risen from the dead, lives and...

Life In And Out Of The Vineyard

“For the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. 2 After agreeing with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard. 3 And going out about the third hour he saw others standing idle in the marketplace, 4 and to them he said, ‘You go into the vineyard too, and whatever is right I will give you.’ 5 So they went. Going out again about the sixth hour and the ninth hour, he did the same. 6 And about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing. And he said...

Judas Iscariot And The Christian

What does the life and discipleship of Judas Iscariot tell the modern Christian about his own life and discipleship?  The several topics discussed below will help to answer this question.  These topics include: (1) why does Jesus call Judas to be His disciple? ; (2) How does Judas’ life as a disciple of Jesus mirror the life of the modern Christian? ; And (3) how and why do the gospels portray Judas as being greedy, loving money and stealing?  The discussion of these topics may lead the modern Christian to the unpleasant realization that he has more in common with...

Why Does Jesus Speak In Parables?

Parables tell simple stories.  Parables tend to use human characters, unlike fables which tend to use non-human characters.  Examples of fables include Aesop’s “The Fox and the Grapes” and Uncle Remus’ “Brer Rabbit”.  Unlike fables which tend to teach basic moral values and life lessons, parables tend to teach spiritual values and lessons.  Examples of parables can be found in both the Old Testament and the New Testament.  An example of an Old Testament parable is the Prophet Nathan’s rebuke of King David’s adultery and murder (see 2 Samuel, chapter 12).  Examples of New Testament parables are, of course, Jesus’...

To Fulfill All Righteousness

Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John.  But John tried to deter him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?”  Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.”  Then John consented.  As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water.  At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him.  And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I...
